Deputies Hold 24-Hour Vigil Honoring Firefighter Killed In Ariz. Wildfire
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies Monday started a 24-hour vigil in honor of firefighter Kevin Woyjeck, who was killed in last month's fast-moving wildfire in Arizona.
Woyjeck, 21, was among 19 firefighters with the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew who died June 30 in the Yarnell Hill fire that burned nearly 8,400 acres.
The vigil is taking place at Los Angeles County Fire Station 23 in Bellflower.
Deputies will stand guard in full uniform to pay tribute to the son of Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Joe Woyjeck.
He was also a former member of the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Explorer Post 9 and worked as an EMT for Care Ambulance Service.
Funeral services for Woyjeck are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christ Cathedral in Garden Grove.
