Arrests Lead To 3K-Pound Stash Of Illegal Fireworks In West Valinda

WEST VALINDA (CBSLA.com) — The arrests of three men in the West Valinda area led deputies to a large stash of illegal fireworks, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Thursday.

The suspects were arrested Wednesday evening in the 1400 block of Sandia Avenue after deputies with the LASD's Violent Summer Crime Enforcement Team saw them lighting fireworks in the street.

"After further investigation, they saw an open residential garage which contained what they believe to be numerous boxes of illegal fireworks," Sgt. Greg Gutierrez said in a statement.

A search warrant was served and deputies seized approximately 3,000 pounds of illegal fireworks.

The names of the suspects were not released because the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

No additional details were released.
