Psychologist Attacked By Inmate At LA Prison

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A contract psychologist is recovering from injuries she suffered in an attack by an inmate at the state prison in Los Angeles County.

Corrections officials say the psychologist was conducting morning rounds at a housing facility Monday when she was repeatedly punched in the face by 37-year-old Jacob Marquez.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries to her head, a broken nose, and hemorrhaging behind her left eye. Her name was not released.

While subduing Marquez two officers sustained cuts and bruises.

Marquez was transported to the Administrative Segregation Unit.

Officials say the incident will be referred to the District Attorney's office for prosecution.

Marquez began serving a 20-year sentence for second-degree robbery in 2004.
