New Details Emerge In Fatal Shooting In Acton

ACTON (CBSLA.com) — New details emerged Thursday in the fatal shooting of a 39-year-old Acton man.

Sheriff's Homicide Detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting that allegedly followed a verbal fight between two men.

The shooting occurred around 2 p.m. in the 1500 block of Eagle Butte Road, said authorities.

The victim -- now identified as Christopher Demyen -- and suspect first reportedly got into a verbal fight over a parked truck. The fight then turned physical and officials said the suspect, now identified as 56-year-old Scott Shipley of Acton, took out a gun and fatally shot Demyen in the upper torso.

KCAL9's Andrea Fujii reported Demyen owned Acton Water, a water delivery company. He leaves behind a pregnant wife and two children.

A friend remembered Demyen as "Always friendly, very open. Always happy."

After Shipley reportedly got into an altercation with an employee of Acton Water, Demyen reportedly went to Shipley's house to calm him down. Another confrontation ensued and officials say Shipley shot Demyen, killing him.

Shipley has been booked on a murder charge at the Palmdale Sheriff's Station. He is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail.

Rich Eichorn, a Shipley neighbor, said most people stayed away from him. "He's sorta been the crazy guy in the neighborhood. There's been problems with him, complaints."

The suspect has a court date scheduled for Friday at the Antelope Valley Court.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
