Cheap In LA: Up Up And Away Kites

SEAL BEACH (CBSLA.com) — An Orange County store is telling customers to go fly a kite – literally.

Up Up and Away Kites rents and sells kites, and teaches first-timers how to fly them free of charge.

Kites are sold for as cheap as $5.

Owner Mellissa Knievel says the store promises to have something for everyone.

"If you want a pirate ship we've got it. If you want a bird that flies, we got it. If you want a shark that flies, we got it," said Knievel.

If Knievel's last name looks familiar, it is; she is the great niece of the late daredevil Evel Knievel.

"I have to say, I always had that need for speed, adrenaline type thing," said Knievel, adding that she is "pretty sure it runs in the family."

"Kiting has absolutely nothing to do with that," she said. "The I connection I can make is that it flies and it's cool."

Up Up And Away is open Monday through Friday, 10a.m. to 7p.m., and weekends 9a.m. to 8p.m. in Seal Beach.
