Westlake Village Pedestrian, 83, Killed By 25-Year-Old Driver

WESTLAKE VILLAGE (CBSLA.com) — An 83-year-old man was struck and killed just before 6 a.m. Wednesday on Agoura Road in Westlake Village.

Lost Hills Station deputies responded to the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Agoura Road, east of Lindero Canyon.

Upon arrival, they found an elderly man lying in the road with serious injuries.

Police said the driver, a 25-year-old Simi Valley man named Reyes Casanova-Varquez, remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation.

Authorities said the victim was walking in the bike lane of the westbound lanes when he was struck.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the incident, said officials.

Based on the initial investigation, Casanova-Varguez was taken into custody and subsequently booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station on a felony vehicular manslaughter charge. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
