Investigators Probe Explosion, Fire At Anaheim Apartment Complex

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say one person has been detained for questioning in connection with an explosion at an Anaheim apartment complex.

Anaheim police Sgt. Bob Dunn says the incident occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday at the Gateway Apartments on State College Boulevard.

Dunn says investigators suspect that the fire and explosion may have been triggered by someone trying to extract hash oil from marijuana.

"It's not something that we see very frequently. It does involve an open flame and in this particular case, that may be what caused the fire," he told KNX 1070 Newsradio.

No one was hurt in the explosion but the fire damaged a fourth-floor unit, and three units directly below.

Residents in those units, which sustained water damage from the sprinklers, were displaced.

There was no word yet on if any arrests had been made.
