Suspect In 6 San Fernando Valley Attempted Kidnappings Held On $4M Bail

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A suspect wanted for several attempted kidnappings in the San Fernando Valley has been arrested and is being held on $4 million bail, police said Tuesday.

Jason Kies, of La Crescenta, was arrested March 22 near his La Crescenta home on six felony counts of attempted kidnapping for sexual assault, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Detectives allege 37-year-old Kies committed a violent crime spree last Friday.

"His intentions were evil; very, very evil," LAPD Capt. Justin Eisenberg told KNX1070's Ed Mertz.

Kies' alleged crime spree began at 8 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Ben Avenue and Hesby Street in North Hollywood. Detective say Kies tried to grab a woman and force her into his gray GMC SUV, but she was able to fight him off.

Then around noon, a security guard stopped Kies as he tried to steal women's clothing and lingerie from a Marshall's in Studio City, police said.

One hour later, a female jogger reportedly fought him off after he followed her near Tujunga Avenue and Sarah Street in Valley Village.

Kies was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Friday when he was apparently stalking another female jogger in La Crescenta, officials said.

All of the victims were young Asian women who were small in stature.

"Each one of these victims refused to surrender; they refused to give up. They fought for their lives, literally," Eisenberg said Tuesday.

Authorities believe there were additional victims, including a woman who was also attacked on Friday in Burbank.

Anyone with information should contact the LAPD's North Hollywood division at (818)623-4016.

Keis is scheduled to appear in court sometime after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
