Missing Sex Offender Found

MISSION VIEJO (CBSLA.com) —  A missing registered sex offender was returned by a relative to a medical facility in Mission Viejo Monday after sheriff's deputies asked for the public's health in locating him.

Louis Rivas, 48, had last been seen around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday at the medical building before authorities declared the sex offender missing.

"Mr. Rivas may be in need of medication and may become disoriented," OC Sheriff's Dept. said in a statement, when he was originally reported missing.

Rivas is a "low-level" sex offender. This means that authorities were not required by law to alert the community about his sex offender status. However, Orange County sheriff's spokesman, Jim Amormino, said they did so anyway.
