Marine Allegedly Beat Girlfriend So Badly She Didn't Recall How She Got Hurt

MURRIETA (CBSLA.com) — A local Marine is accused of beating his live-in girlfriend so badly, she didn't remember how she got hurt.

Greg Mills, reporting for KCAL9, says the victim's cell phone is what led investigators to arrest the Marine.

Anthony Eugene Rollins is facing domestic abuse and torture charges.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's, Rollins' girlfriend was treated at Loma Linda University Medical Center for bleeding on the brain and a fractured skull.

A key piece of evidence against Rollins is voice mail on the victim's cell phone, according to authorities.

A detective investigating the case believes Rollins accidentally pocket-dialed the victim's cell phone during the commission of a beating -- and one minute and 26 seconds of the attack was caught on audio.

Sheriff's department documents say the time stamp of the audio recording coincides with the time the victim sustained her injuries.

The alleged victim is heard on the audio saying "my face hurts." Rollins is heard saying, "You are not going to call the police ... stop crying ... don't fight, it's only going to get worse," according to a Sheriff's report.

The report says what followed was the alleged victim "screaming, crying and hitting sounds."

The alleged attack occurred when the Marine's girlfriend reportedly returned home from a night out with friends. She had been drinking -- she recalled having 3-4 beers.

The next day, the woman said she awoke with a horrible headache and was vomiting. Rollins reportedly told her that she was drunk the night before and fell down the stairs -- causing her injuries.

She didn't believe his account but had no proof anything else had happened, until she listened to her voice mail.

Rollins was in court Thursday.  He is being held on $1 million bond.
