Marine Recruit Arrested After Racing Onto SoCal Runway

SAN DIEGO (CBSLA.com) — A U.S. Marines recruit was in custody Thursday after racing across an airport runway in San Diego.

KNX 1070's Tom Reopelle reports police believe the recruit suffered injuries while dashing across the tarmac at Lindbergh Field.

The 22-year-old Marine recruit from San Rafael left the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) by climbing over a razor-wired double fence and dashing onto the tarmac.

San Diego Harbor Police Lt. John Forsythe said officers found the recruit hiding in a van near Terminal 6.

"His clothing was torn off, he was pretty shredded," said Forsythe. "He had quite a few lacerations that we actually had to send him to the hospital for treatment on that."

The recruit reported to MCRD on Monday. He was still being processed and had not yet reported for boot camp.

No flight operations were affected by the incident.
