Winter Storms Delay Flights Departing LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Flights departing Los Angeles International Airport are experiencing delays due to winter storms pummeling much of the Midwest, South and Northeast with rain and snow.

The day after Christmas just happens to be the second busiest travel day of the year, according to Marshall Lowe of Los Angeles World Airways – and many of those travelers departing LAX were increasingly frustrated by growing takeoff delays.

As of noon, LAX was reporting delays of more than an hour for flights bound for Newark and the New York's Kennedy International. Delays for flights to Philadelphia were even greater – up to three and a half hours.

Flights departing LAX for New York's LaGuardia or Dallas Ft. Worth International were not allowed to take off before 12:30 p.m. PST.

By evening, flights to Philadelphia were being delayed by an average of four hours and 11 minutes, according to the LAX website. Flights bound for Newark were experiencing an average delay time of two hours and 44 minutes.

Holiday travelers were advised to contact their airlines for delays and possible cancellations.
