Downtown Women's Center Opens Second Residence

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Downtown Women's Center Thursday celebrated the grand opening of its second residence and resale boutique in downtown Los Angeles.

The celebration started at 9 a.m. with opening remarks by public officials and featured a holiday music performance from the all-female mariachi band Las Colibri, as well as tours of the center.

Now that 48 apartments were finished, the center has 119 buildings available to homeless women.

The grand opening also included a new resale boutique, where high-end designer women's clothing will be sold.

The boutique expands the DWC's social enterprise program and provides DWC women with work experience, including the opportunity to earn an income by making items for MADE, DWC's signature product line.
