Hundreds Line Up On Eve Of Annual South LA Thanksgiving Giveaway

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Hundreds of needy families lined up in South Los Angeles Monday night on the eve of an annual Thanksgiving event.

The Turkey Dinner Giveaway, which has been organized by Jackson Limousine Service for the past 30 years, begins at 8 a.m. Tuesday at 3669 West Slauson Avenue.

Volunteers have prepared boxes filled with fresh produce, stuffing, and snacks for the nearly 10,000 people who are expected to show up.

"Our theory is that we not only want to feed them, but we want them to have dignity during the holidays. Every man wants to feed his family," said volunteer Ruth Gilchrist.

Resident Lynn Allen was one of the first people in line to make sure she can feed her family.

"I thank God for Jackson Limousine for feeding and giving to the community. Giving back," she said.

Angeleno Regina Quinn said, "We have a recession right now. A lot of people are homeless and children need to be fed."
