Dr. Moy Discusses 5 Things To Know Before Plastic Surgery

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Thinking about getting plastic surgery?

Board certified dermatologist Dr. Ronald Moy visited KCAL9 Monday to discuss five things to know before you consider plastic surgery, as well as offer tips on non-invasive procedures.

Top 5 Things To Know Before You Nip/Tuck

1.Do the research

Before undergoing any procedure, it is always vitally important to do your due diligence. Once you have received the facts about the particular procedure(s) you are seeking, you'll want to "hit the books" yet again to find the physician best suited to perform the surgery or treatment. A good place to start is ensuring the physician is experienced, board certified, and equipped with positive reviews and/or recommendations.

2. Try a non-invasive approach first

For a more intensive approach to wrinkles, expression lines, and thinned lips, many individuals find minimally invasive injectables and fillers satisfy all their needs. Fillers add volume to modestly lift skin, offering the appearance of skin tightening similar to that expected by a surgical procedure. Additionally, injections of Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin can relax the face and muscles, which can eliminate frown lines and soften crow's feet.

3. Explore other alternatives

If you've got the time (several months) and you've done the research, why not consider a completely non-invasive alternative to surgery? Consider using a skincare line containing DNA Repair Enzymes and barley-derived human Epidermal Growth Factors (EGF), which are clinically proven to tighten sagging skin and reverse photodamage caused by UV rays and other environmental stressors. Furthermore, the right skincare can garner even greater results when used in combination with skin tightening and collagen enhancing lasers to minimize wrinkles, fines lines, and blotchiness.

4. Time correctly

Before attempting any treatment or procedure, invasive or otherwise, be sure you time it correctly. Products take time to work and skin takes time to heal. If you have a big event coming up, you'll want to take this into account. For instance, if you are sticking with lasers and topical treatments, you'll want to begin at least 6-8 weeks prior to a big event to see results. Filler and injectables can cause temporary redness and onsite swelling, so it is best to leave at least a week's time before a big event, just to play it safe. As for more invasive procedures, you'll want ample time to ensure you are healed.

5. Consider whether you truly need any help at all

Before you opt for surgery, know that most minor skin ailments can be rectified with an effective topical regimen. As always, to prevent any additional damage and to keep your complexion safe, remember to always apply a reliable broad spectrum sunscreen.
