17 Injured After School Bus Collides With U-Haul In Victorville

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) —An elementary school bus filled with about 40 students overturned on Thursday after it collided with a U-Haul truck in Victorville.

The accident was reported around 2 p.m. on Nisqualli Road.

The bus, which was taking students home from nearby Galileo Academy, was headed westbound when a U-Haul driver backed out from the driveway of a home.

"It was a mother and daughter, and the daughter was directing the mom as she was backing out," said Officer Joaquin Zubieta from the California Highway Patrol. "There was a miscommunication somewhere along the line and the U-Haul backed out into the street, into the school bus."

Zubieta said the bus clipped the back of the truck, swerved and overturned on its side.

A total of 17 people on the bus were injured, including the driver, according to Zubieta.

Ten people suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Two kids were taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Four children were treated at the scene.

The mother and daughter in the U-Haul were uninjured.

Police are investigating the accident.
