2 Injured In Violent Officer-Involved Crash In Encino

ENCINO (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles police officer and a woman were injured following a violent car crash in Encino on Friday night.

The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hayvenhurst Avenue and Ventura Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the officer was headed westbound on Ventura and a woman in a blue sedan was driving eastbound when the cars collided for an "unknown reason."

Witnesses said the woman turned left on Hayvenhurst when the crash happened.

"The blue sedan slowed down and was waiting…thought they had a clear lane…and started to turn. The officer's vehicle was travelling at a normal rate of speed and they just met," said Sgt. Robert White from the LAPD.

The officer and the other driver were transported to the hospital.

The woman had to get stitches for a three-inch cut to the top of her head.

Police said it's still unclear who was responsible for the accident.

The woman will undergo tests to determine if she was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
