Facebooked: Simi Valley Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A Simi Valley bank robbery suspect was behind bars Wednesday after he was recognized from a photo posted by police on Facebook.

On July 9, a male suspect described as Latino and approximately 55 years of age robbed Citibank located at 2860 Cochran Street.

An investigation was launched after the lone suspect fled the location on foot.

On Sept. 1, the same Citibank branch was again robbed by what appeared to be the same suspect from July.

No one was injured during either robbery and Simi Valley Police Department Detectives continued to investigate with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

After bank surveillance footage was recovered from the second robbery, the suspect's image was posted on the Simi Valley Police Department's Facebook page asking the community for assistance in identifying the suspect.

Within hours, a citizen contacted police investigators stating she recognized the suspect. After being interviewed by investigators and confirmation from other witnesses, the suspect was identified as Gonzales.

On Oct. 1, the FBI located Gonzales in Los Angeles and he was arrested without incident.
