Police Officer Shot In Inglewood

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A police officer was shot Sunday night in South Los Angeles during a traffic stop.

Inglewood police officers were making a traffic stop around 10:25 p.m. near Imperial and Crenshaw boulevards when the suspect opened fire, striking one officer in the left calf.

The officers took cover behind the police car, unable to return fire. The suspect took off and eventually abandoned the silver 2008 Chevrolet Impala near Prairie Avenue and the 105 freeway. It was found shortly after midnight.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen following a carjacking in Long Beach Saturday night.

The injured officer was treated and released from a local hospital.

The suspect is described a Hispanic man with medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt and baseball cap.
