LA Man Accused Of Ramming SUV Through Business In Robbery Attempt

TEMECULA (CBS) — A Los Angeles man was arrested for allegedly ramming his BMW sport utility vehicle through the security door of a Promenade Mall business, sheriff's officials said Sunday.

The suspect, 22-year-old Equonne Romon Howard, was taken into custody Thursday at 9 a.m. on suspicion of violating his state parole and two counts of second degree burglary, according to jail records.

Howard was booked into the Southwest Detention Center without bail. The location of Howard's arrest was not announced.

Sheriff's deputies learned Howard is the registered owner of the SUV that was used earlier that day to enter an Apple Store. Officials said several suspects got out of the vehicle and tried taking electronic items from the store.

The SUV got stuck inside the store during the burglary attempt and drove into the damaged gate several times before fleeing, sheriff's officials said.

Sheriff's officials said the investigation is ongoing.
