TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — An 82-year-old woman with a long history of crime was charged Tuesday with several counts of commercial burglary.

Gamble was accused of stealing about $17,000 from several doctor's offices between March and August. Prosecutors say she would visit the offices, hide until closing time, then rifle through the drawers until she found cash.

Gamble reportedly has a rap sheet dating back to 1955 and was immediately recognized by Torrance police detectives when they reviewed surveillance video. Gamble's 21-page rap sheet includes arrests for disturbing the peace, burglary, forgery and grand theft.

The octogenarian was arrested Thursday at an El Segundo motel.

Judge Thomas Sokolov ordered that Gamble remain jailed in lieu of $260,000 bail.

She is due back in court Sept. 18, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require her to stand trial.

If convicted, she faces more than five years in county jail, according to the District Attorney's Office.
