Woman Surrenders To Police After Allegedly Kidnapping Girl

UPDATE 5:59 p.m.: Valdivia surrendered to police. She hasn't been booked for a crime, pending questioning. The 2-year-old appeared to be okay.

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — Downey police are searching for a 2-year-old girl who has been missing since Monday after not returning from the grocery store with her mother's acquaintance.

Kailei Valdivia, 42, was last seen with Stephanie Nicole Hartzell around 6 p.m.

Valdivia, who was living with the child's mother, told the mother she was going to the store with Stephanie and they would be back, according to police.

The suspect and the 2-year-old girl left in the mother's car.

The suspect was last seen driving a 1995 blue Chevrolet Camaro with the license plate number 4TNE014. The car has no front license plate and has tinted windows.

Valdivia is described as Caucasian, with blond hair and green eyes.

Stephanie has curly blond hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white multi-colored flowered dress with spaghetti straps.
