Mother Of Missing Snorkeler Reveals New Information

PALOS VERDES (CBSLA.com) — Divers have been combing the waters off the Palos Verdes Peninsula for 50-year-old Rebecca Weiss, a missing snorkeler.

Weiss has been missing since Saturday after she reportedly went snorkeling off the sands of the Terranea Resort.

CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Carter Evans spoke to the missing woman's mother, Vilma Causey on Wednesday.

Says Causey, "We can only wait. But I just hope nothing happens to her bad."

Causey told Evans she is still holding out hope her daughter will be found alive. "It's not like it's anybody missing. It's my daughter."

Weiss was last seen leaving her condominium in Marina Del Rey Saturday before she allegedly went snorkeling.

The woman's husband, Alan Weiss, told homicide investigators he went looking for his wife when she failed to return home. He said he found some of her belongings on the sand and her car in the parking lot.

Says Causey, "It's hard for me to think they're been diving there since Sunday and nothing comes out of it."

The missing woman's mother, sister, brother have all come forward asking for witnesses who might have seen Weiss enter the water that day.

Detectives said everyone has been cooperating with the investigation and that Weiss is not a suspect in his wife's disappearance. CBS2 and KCAL9 reporter Suzie Suh says Weiss was questioned by detectives Wednesday.

Causey hasn't spoken to her son-in-law since her daughter went missing.. "I find that weird," she says, "Everybody, they're looking for her."

Causey says the fact her daughter's credit cards and driver's license were found near her car is strange. The missing woman's cell phone and keys are missing and her family has expressed doubt that she would have taken them into the water.

Her mother also doesn't understand why no one has come forward to say they saw Weiss near the water that day. Choking back tears, Causey said, "Was she the only one on the beach to swim? Especially at that resort? No one saw her? No one saw her??"

After several days of declining to comment, Alan Weiss Wednesday evening sent CBS2 and KCAL9 a message about his wife. "I am very concerned, Rebecca is a great diver. We have been all around the world. This is just not what I ever expected. This should only be about Rebecca. Anyone who has seen her. Please contact the sheriff's office in PV [Palos Verdes]. Thank you."
