Authorities Say 2 Badly Burned Toddlers Serve As Cautionary Tale On Handling Boiling Water

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — One Southland family is serving as a cautionary tale after two of their young children were badly injured by scalding hot water.

The children's mother was at a press conference Wednesday warning other parents about how easily it is for children to get burned.

The woman's 18-month-old son and 5-year-old daughter were in the kitchen while her adult sister was boiling water to make macaroni.

The pot of hot water somehow fell onto the two children, burning more than 80 percent of the boy's body and burning the girl's chest and arms. The boy suffered second- and third-degree burns.

The mother said her son is still in the intensive care unit.
