Actress Melissa Joan Hart Settles Suit Over Unpaid Commission With Former Manager

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Melissa Joan Hart and her former talent manager have settled a suit he filed alleging the actress refused to pay him commission on money she earned for the hit ABC family series "Melissa & Joey."

The terms of the settlement were not divulged in a notice filed in Los Angeles Superior Court Tuesday.

Kieran Maguire claims Hart, whose career was waning, hired him in 2006 to "rebrand her image to obtain a level of celebrity that would afford her the ability to constantly find work in Hollywood."

Maguire represented Hart for five years during the time she was cast in the series "Melissa & Joey," until he was fired in March 2010, the suit stated.

The 36-year-old actress allegedly refused to pay Maguire commissions beyond those received during the first year of the show.

"Hart has left Maguire with no choice but to file this lawsuit because "America's Sweetheart" mistakenly believes she can simply breach her contractual obligations without consequences," the suit stated.

In 2008, Hart refused to pay Maguire commissions for a magazine photo shoot he obtained for her, saying she was "just plain cheap," the suit stated. However, Hart paid the money later, according to the suit.
