Suspicious Bag Prompts Evacuation Of Terminal 6 At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBS) —What turned out to be a microphone prompted the partial evacuation of Terminal 6 at Los Angeles International Airport Tuesday morning.

"At approximately 7 a.m., Los Angeles Airport Police responded to a report of a suspicious bag at Terminal 6," Sgt. Belinda Nettles said. "At approximately 9 a.m., Terminal 6 was repopulated and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening check points were re-opened."

An LAPD Bomb squad found the suspicious item turned out to be a microphone packed inside a hard plastic container with a twist cap. It was determined to not be a threat.

The owner of the bag was detained and questioned by Airport Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, but was later released to resume travel plans. The owner's identity will not be released, LAX spokeswoman Nancy Castles said.

There were a number of delays caused by the incident. There were a total of 27 departure delays, Castles said, with four flights experiencing a two-hour delay. Most of the other flights averaged delays of about 30 minutes, she said.

There were no cancellations and arrival flights were generally not impacted, Castles said.
