Penalty Phase Gets Under Way For Convicted Cop Killer
RIVERSIDE (CBS) — Jurors are deciding whether to recommend death for a man convicted of killing a Riverside police officer.
Earl Ellis Green, 46, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the Nov. 7, 2010, slaying of 27-year-old Ryan Patrick Bonaminio.
Green used Bonaminio's police-issued gun to shoot at him twice and missed both times. He shot a third time and killed him.
The shooting happened after a traffic stop.
The same jury that convicted Green earlier this month will recommend his sentence.
They are expected to hear final arguments from both sides including testimony from family members. One of Green's uncle's reportedly will testify for the prosecution.
