Man Accused Of Spying On Women In Sears Dressing Rooms, Restrooms

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBS) —  A maintenance man was arrested on suspicion of placing hidden video cameras throughout the Sears store at the Valley Plaza mall in order to surreptitiously record women in fitting rooms and restrooms, police said Wednesday.

Alejandro Gamiz, 27, was arrested Thursday by sexual assault detectives.

Gamiz was booked for burglary and surreptitiously recording unsuspecting women. Evidence supporting the charges was recovered from the store's security personnel and with the cooperation of the suspect, police said.

The suspect posted $20,000 bail and was released from custody while the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office reviews the case.

Investigators are not looking for additional victims because the statue under which Gamiz has been charged does not require the specific identity of individuals who were victimized.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Detectives Martin Pinner or Karen Crawford at (818) 623-4090 or (818) 623-4045.
