Man Wanted For Attempted Kidnapping In Hollenbeck Area

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The public's help is needed to identify and locate the man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl as she walked home from school in the Hollenbeck area.

Police say the girl was walking in the 1900 block of East 4th Street after leaving Hollenbeck Middle School when she was stopped by a man. She told police the man blocked her path and asked her, "What's your name? Do you need a job? How old are you? You're beautiful. I love your lips."

The suspect continued to try to talk to her as she walked, then drove alongside her, offering her a ride. At Pecan and 4th Street, the suspect waved cash and yelled "Here, you want money?" to the girl as she crossed Pecan, police said.

When the girl yelled back, "Just leave me alone!" police say the suspect drove up to her, got out of his car and grabbed her by the shoulders and tried to force her into the backseat of the car.

The girl fought off her attacker and ran into a nearby market for help. She sustained bruises to her back shoulders and legs.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man, 35 to 45 years old, about 5-feet-9 with short cut hair, a pockmarked face and a tattoo of possibly or dragon or snake on his left forearm. He wore a blue short-sleeve dress shirt, black pants and black dress shoes. His car was described as a black, four-door sedan, "with a peace symbol" on the hood, possibly a Mercedes.

Anyone with information about this crime can call Detective David Meza at (323) 342-8993.
