Man's Best Friend? Dog Gives Away Burglary Suspect

LAKE ELSINORE (CBS) — A burglary suspect was behind bars Saturday after being spotted by a Riverside County sheriff's deputy, who recognized the man's dog from crime surveillance footage.

Two men were reportedly caught on camera as they pilfered cash from a business in the 29300 block of Village Park, said sheriff's Sgt. John Carlberg. Along with the men during the crime was a white dog with brown spots.

Friday around 7:45 pm, a deputy spotted that same dog being walked by David Earl Hachee, 53, of Wildomar.

Like the dog, Hachee looked familiar to the deputy, who had seen them both on the video surveillance images.

The man and the dog were taken into custody.

Hachee was booked into the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley for suspicion of burglary. He was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Police reports did not indicate what happened to the hound, a sheriff's department spokesman said.

The other male suspect is still being sought.
