FULLERTON (CBS) — The father of an Iraq war veteran accused of murdering four homeless men in Orange County is speaking out about what may have triggered the brutal killings.

Itzcoatl Ocampo, 23, of Yorba Linda, was arrested Friday after he was seen running from a Carl’s Jr. restaurant, where a man had been stabbed to death.

His own father, Refugio Ocampo, has also been homeless since he lost his job as a lawyer. Ocampo says his son returned from Iraq a changed man, expressing disillusionment as he struggled to find his way.

“He started talking about stuff that didn’t make any sense to me, like the end of the world. Something big coming, like a big war, a big war,” Ocampo said.

Ocampo says his son also showed him a newspaper article about the first homeless victim to warm him about the dangers of living on the streets.

Charges could be filed against Ocampo as early as Monday.

Another excuse to murder?? Stop protecting and making excuses for something wrong. One of those murdered was a U.S. Veteran who served and didn’t murder anyone when he came back. Instead of being killed in Vietnam, he was murdered, not in a jungle, but on a street in America.

Wake up America and teach your children the morals of right and wrong, and stop making excuses for the wrongs…..

A homeless, unemployed lawyer? Never heard of one of those before.

He was never a lawyer in California according to the California State Bar. I don’t know where they came up with Refugio Ocampo being a lawyer. Go to the California State Bar website and check for yourselves.

@ Drew you are exactly right! Stop making excuses….if he was sooo crazy why did he run? In the war they kill they don’t run…why didn’t you just stand there if you are crazy…very sorry for the loss of these innocent people. I too am sorry for the am sorry for the suspects family, they have to live with their loss as well.
