Who's Stealing All The Manhole Covers In Alhambra?

ALHAMBRA (CBS) — Alhambra police Wednesday asked residents to be aware of disappearing manhole and drain covers for streets and sidewalks.

The thefts often occur at night, which is also true for copper wire thefts, usually committed for the same reason -- the salvage value of the metal, police said.

A missing drain cover could result in injury and police worry that unsuspecting pedestrians could accidentally fall into a hole.

Police said a number of thefts occurred on Halloween night between the hours of 6 and 10.

Police asked residents to "adopt" the neighborhood's manhole and rain covers. Anyone witnessing something should call Alhambra police at (626) 570-5177.
