LOS ANGELES (CBS) — A Porsche reported stolen out of Las Vegas more than 20 years ago has been recovered at the Port of Los Angeles.

The 1976 Porsche 930 Turbo was discovered inside a cargo container Oct. 25 that was bound for the Netherlands, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

“While querying the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) information in law enforcement databases, CBP officers discovered that the vehicle was reported stolen on November 24, 1988,” the CBPsaid.

The luxury car, estimated at $27,552, was seized by officials and released to Las Vegas police. It was originally undervalued at $12,552 on the vehicle manifest.

From Oct. 2010 to Aug. 2011, port officials have seized 100 stolen or undervalued vehicles and engines that were bound for foreign countries. The items were valued at $1.8 million.
