Hassler Offers Career Tips To College Grads

STUDIO CITY (CBS) — Looking for a new career? We've got tips!

Christine Hassler, a Gen Y expert, Gen Y contributor to Huffington Post, author and life coach specializing in Millennial & generational issues visited the KCAL 9 studios Wednesday.

The likelihood that a recent grad will find a job today is bleak. In record numbers, they are struggling to find work:

· The unemployment rate for Millennials is the highest since World War II.

· For the first time in 11 months, the economy added no new jobs in August.

· Opting to stay put, roughly 5.9 million American Millennials last year lived with their parents, an increase of 25% from before the recession.

Hassler's tips:

· New Grads Don't Know Their Worth – Students & recent grads are currently low-balling their starting salary by $10,000 less than hiring pros project.

· Advice from Hiring Pros: "Personality Counts" – Hiring pros say personality counts twice as much as a candidate's qualifications during an interview.

· Social Media: helping or hurting job hunt? – More than half of hiring pros believe that while social media has improved recent grads ability to think out of the box, it has deteriorated their writing skills, ability to focus on a task and verbal communication skills.

· Where the Jobs Are – According to hiring pros, top industries hiring the most recent grads are Health Care, Professional/Scientific/Technical Services, Internet Marketing and Web Design.
