LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Clearing out the clutter around you may help you to clear out the chaos in your relationship.

CBS2’s Suzie Suh consulted expert organizers and psychologists on cleaning up and how it can help you reconnect with others.

“I think that any time that you have a disagreement between two people about how things ‘should’ be kept you’re going to have conflict in the relationship,” said Dr. Jenny Yip, a psychologist in West Los Angeles.

No matter how you organize your mess, experts say it’s important to have a home for everything — even, the most simple items.

“I like everything in order, I like everything labeled,” said Miley, a West L.A. resident who said her ex-husband’s messyness contributed to their divorce. “I like everything perfect.”

And, try spending 10 minutes every day walking around your home, analyzing which items are being used and which items are sitting around idly. The latter should be removed and donated.

Just ask yourself, “Am I really going to use this?”
