GARDENA (CBS) — Two people were killed and a third suffered critical injuries when their sport utility vehicle crashed into a tree in Gardena, a police official said.

Officers were dispatched to the crash scene at Ardath and Rosecrans avenues at 5:48 a.m., Steve Prendergast of the Gardena Police Department said.

According to Prendergast, a green 1993 Ford Explorer that was carrying three men was traveling west on Rosecrans Avenue when it struck a tree and eventually turned on its side in the roadway.

Officials said two of the men were pronounced dead at the scene.

A third was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. He apparently suffered multiple broken bones.

I’m guessing at least two of these were a factor:
    1. Speeding
    2. No seatbelts
    3. Intoxication
    4. Exhaustion

No the driver was sober and it happens sadly he was tired worked all day it was early in the morning your ignorant you don’t even know so don’t assume not every car accident is caused by someone being intoxicated

you people speaking on things you don’t know about.. every situation is different so don’t assume you know what your talking about. this was a sad tragic accident that did not involve drunk driving he was giving a ride to the other two men and he had just worked a double shift so please don’t leave those kind of rude messages because you don’t have all the facts

    3. R says:

      Sorry Pat
But no,no angry off duty cop shot anybody, nobody was drunk and nobody meant to hurt anybody, just a horrible accident that took two short lived lives. Accidents happen and it not about the kind of truck or tires or speed because it could have easily been anyone. And all the more reason to appreciate how fragile life is because it could be so easily taken

  6. frank says:

This is wrong people that know nothing of this situation making assumptions
