2 Dead, 3 Injured In Hacienda Heights House Fire

HACIENDA HEIGHTS (CBS) — A 49-year-old woman and her 3-year-old son were killed in a house fire in Hacienda Heights Sunday night.

The woman's husband and 8-year-old daughter were hospitalized after he rescued the girl from her bedroom window.

The woman died at the scene of the fire, which broke out at 11 p.m. Sunday in the 1700 block of Piermont Drive. The boy died after he was taken to a local hospital.

A firefighter who also suffered smoke inhalation was treated at a hospital and later released.

Neighbors say they could hear loud popping and screams of terror coming from the home.

Battalion Chief Joel Harrison of the Los Angeles County Fire Department told CBS2 he doesn't believe the family had a working smoke detector.

Investigators were at the scene Monday morning.

No further details were immediately released.
