LOS ANGELES (CBS) — The 13-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver is reported to be hospitalized Friday, recovering from a serious surfing accident last weekend in Malibu.

“A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach,” Shriver and Schwarzenegger said in a statement Friday.

Christopher Schwarzenegger has been in intensive care for days after suffering multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung in the accident, according to the celebrity news website TMZ.com.

“While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery. On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son. They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family,” the statement said.

His condition has been upgraded since he was initially hospitalized, TMZ reported. His mother has been at his side constantly, and his father has been a regular visitor as well, according to TMZ.

This is not an isolated incident if in fact it did occur while he was surfing. Surfing accidents occur daily with different outcomes. There have been surfers who have lost their lives while trying to enjoy the sport. This kid is very lucky that he survived as it could have been a whole lot worse.

I wish you had the balls to tell Arnold that to his face, so 7X Mr. Olympia could stomp your ass into the ground
