3 Arrested In Death Of Downey Man, 49

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Three Los Angeles-area residents were in custody Sunday for allegedly killing a 49-year-old Downey man.

Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Brian Reno said Pedro Vazquez was found dead inside a car along Oak Valley Parkway in an unincorporated area near Beaumont about 11:30 p.m. on July 10.

According to Reno, a Beaumont police officer on patrol that night saw suspicious activity between two men and a woman in a white Nissan Maxima and a second vehicle.

The officer called for backup and stopped the car, then found Vaquez's body in the driver's seat of the other car, Reno said.

Investigators developed information that led to the arrests of 32-year-old Ernesto Garcia-Vega of Compton, 33-year-old Israel Benitez-Mariscal of Paramount and 31-year-old Maria Ayon of Downey on murder charges.
