LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is headed for the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Baltimore on Friday, where he will be sworn in as the organization’s president.

As head of the organization, Villaraigosa will succeed Mayor Elizabeth Kautz of Burnsville, Minn., in a role that calls for him to set the conference’s agenda, appoint committee and task force chairs and act as a national spokesman for the group, according to the mayor’s office.

The mayor also has a full schedule over the next few days, including a meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelis later on Friday, and a panel discussion on “Mayoral Leadership and Engagement in Education,” along with Tony Miller, a deputy education secretary.

Although the mayor of Los Angeles has no formal role in education, Villaraigosa has made education one of his priorities since taking office in 2005.

The trip will be Villaraigosa’s sixth outside Southern California since late April.

Villaraigosa is expected to return to Los Angeles on Monday.

What has Villar done to become the president of leadership conference??? Catering to illegal immigrants! Failing citizens of Los Angeles, failing his marriage, his family! This guy is a joke.

LA’s mayor and city council are blood sucking parasites that care very little for nothing else than their own careers. I am glad to hear he is wasting more of our city money on another lavish trip that does absolutely nothing for the City of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, public safety (LAFD and LAPD), LA Unified School District, public libraries, and city maintenance all have been stripped to the bone. People’s lives have already been ruined thanks to the thieves that run this city. This time next year, hold your breath if you call 911 or send your kid off to a school that offers them little hope of a properly educated future. LA City politicians make me sick to my stomach with what they get away with. They are just better at covering up their criminal misdeeds than the folks at the City of Bell.

Don’t you get it. Does the word illegal not translate? Selling hot dogs on the street is exactly what we don’t want. This is not Mexico and no matter how much the illegal immigrants think they can flaunt the law, they should be corrected. i don’t want LA to become any more like Mexico. The immigrants come here to get away from Mexico. I am tired of watching my community living standards be reduced by people who don’t mind grafitti and scofflaws everywhere. Unlicensed street vendors who probably pay no taxes should be stopped. I grew up in a Los Angeles where there was racial balance. Now, as an Anglo American I am a minority in my own hometown. The racism is coming from the Latinos in forcing a less developed culture on me and my family. OPT IN not OUT

I have been riding the bus now for 2 years. Each month it gets worse. There are almost no programs playing on Transit TV that don’t cater to Mexicans. I need to speak Spanish now just to find out what the weather is going to be.

Don’t complain, it’s going to be much, much worse! Within two generations whites are going to be the minority accross the country. Check out the census stats, it should frighten any real American! What has happened to our country will go down in history as the largest invasion to ever be carried out without been declared so. In other words, “stealth invasion”. Americans, apparently accept this scenario in the name of cheap services and goods. Cheap lettuce anyone?

Too bad that the conference is not televised in order that the LA voters can witness the absolute ignorance of this carnival mayor.
It’s a case of the dumbest leading the cream of the crop.
Imagine brilliant Bloomberg being “guided” by this cretin.
The Education Mayor should publish his high school and college grades for his voting public.

Tony is going to act as “national spokesman of the group?”
Is this the best the USA can provide? There HAS TO BE a multitude of candidates that actually IMPROVED their City. A candidate who listens to the problems of all in his/her city and not a specific group.
Did they look at his resume of running er ruining L.A.? Where is the adultery fervour in connection with Tony?
The dumbing down of America really does begin at the top! We all know what Tony’s priorities are, open borders anyone?

Mayor Villaraigosa is a thief with no ethics or morals period. He needs to removed from office immediately. The LA City Council neds to be eliminated and given a fresh start. We just need another big earthquake to burn this city to the ground and start over. Unfortunately, our coward mayor will most likely be out of town on a tax payer funded vacation trip to Hawaii or Bali.
