Man To Face Charges For Allegedly Running Off With Girl

WHITTIER (AP) — Authorities say a 20-year-old man will face charges after allegedly driving off with a 12-year-old Whittier girl he met on the Internet.

Whittier Police Lt. Carlos Solorza says Ivan Felipe Cerda remains in custody Sunday in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Cerda and the girl were detained late Saturday morning by Riverside County sheriff's deputies near Anza. Solorza says the girl was unharmed.

Police say the pair met via a social networking feature in the Sony Playstation Internet service. Cerda was seen driving the girl away from her home Friday afternoon in his 2003 Volkswagen Passat, according to authorities.

Police say they briefly stopped at Cerda's mother's home in Vista.

Cerda has been charged with deprivation of custody of a child. Solarza says he would face prison time if found guilty.
