2-Time Rancho Mirage Mayor Dies Day After He Resigns

RANCHO MIRAGE (CBS) — Rancho Mirage Mayor Pro Tem Ron Meepos died Friday, one day after his letter of resignation was accepted by the City Council.

Meepos had been struggling with diabetes in recent months. He died this afternoon at age 80, MyDesert.com, the website of The Desert Sun reported.

Meepos' resignation was to take effect July 1. He said declining health necessitated his resignation.

Meepos was first elected to the Rancho Mirage City Council in 2002 and twice served as the city's mayor.
