Man Arrested In Oxnard Street Racing Crash

OXNARD, Calif. — A man has been arrested in connection with a suspected street racing crash in Oxnard that hospitalized seven people.

Police arrested 33-year-old Anthon Chevalier over the weekend for investigation of driving under the influence, hit and run and participating in street racing.

The Ventura County Star reported Chevalier is believed to have raced 23-year-old Torrey Austin on Friday. Police say Austin didn't stop at an intersection where his car struck an SUV, injuring five people inside.

The driver was in critical condition while a 6-year-old girl was in stable but critical condition. The other three were taken to a hospital but their conditions were not made available

Austin and a passenger in his car were at a hospital with broken bones. Police said charges against Austin are pending.
