LA County Inmate Bus Involved In Crash On 5 Freeway
COMMERCE (CBS) — Several buses, including one Los Angeles County inmate-transport bus, were involved in a collision on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway Thursday.
The four buses were involved in a chain-reaction crash in Commerce near Washington Blvd. just before noon, according to sheriff's officials.
Los Angeles County fire officials said a county sheriff's bus carrying 25 people and three other buses carrying military personnel were involved. The accident occured when one of the military buses rear-ended the inmate bus.
Officials said eight people were injured including one member of the military who was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Five inmates were among those injured.
The northbound portion of the 5 Freeway was closed as a result.
