AVALON (CBS) — Thirty-one bales of marijuana, worth an estimated $750,000, were seized Tuesday afternoon on Catalina Island.

A man was also arrested.

The man, as well as the estimated 1,500 pounds of marijuana, were first spotted about 4 p.m. by a deputy and a conservancy ranger on patrol, according to the sheriff’s department.

Backup was called and a short time later the department’s Air Rescue 5 helicopter arrived, along with a special weapons team and the seizure and arrest were made.

The suspect and marijuana were flown to the mainland so the investigation could continue.

Just think, if it was legal there wouldn’t have been any fuss and 2 billion in tax payers money wouldn’t have been wasted only to reclaim a few million in illegal funds. You’ve gotta love the logic here

I can’t believe this stuff is still illegal. It’s far less harmful than tobacco, alcohol and most processed foods, or the foods served in the majority of fast food restaurants.

Really? This is your comment? James, everyone, EVERYONE has their vice. Be it legal or illegal – there are PLENTY of legal things that are terrible for you. Should everybody give something up that they enjoy, to donate to people suffering? People should give what they can, when they can.
Life is tough. Members of our society (you know, the kind that read news items on the internet, for instance) need AND deserve to have things they enjoy, you only get one go ’round on this planet. Welcome to the human condition. Now catch up, please.
