Former San Onofre Power Plant Manager Sues Over Firing

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former Southern California Edison manager who claims he was fired for reporting safety concerns at the San Onofre nuclear power plant is suing the company.

Paul Diaz filed the wrongful termination lawsuit on Tuesday in Los Angeles.

Diaz claims he was fired from the San Diego County plant last year after telling his boss and federal regulators about safety concerns raised by employees.

Edison spokesman Gil Alexander tells City News Service that the company doesn't comment on pending litigation but doesn't tolerate anyone who retaliates against employees for raising safety concerns.

Federal regulators ordered extra inspections at the San Onofre plant in 2008 because of such concerns.

California nuclear power plants also have come under increased scrutiny recently because of radiation leaks in Japanese reactors damaged by a tsunami.
