LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Former TV talk show host Larry King is now a spokesman for a Beverly Hills bagel store.

KNX 1070’s John Brooks reports the 77-year-old New York native is throwing his considerable clout behind the Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company.

King claims the franchise — which opened Friday morning on Beverly Drive — has found a way to make the water just like the water in Brooklyn.

“It’s a great idea…They’re able to take this water from Brooklyn, which is the best tap water in America,” King told KNX 1070 in this exclusive interview.

The bagel store takes tap water, filters and then re-mineralizes it, claiming it has the exact taste and smell of Brooklyn water.

  1. Steve says:

But what does the water have to do with bagels? I’m confused.

  2. Dave says:

Proper bagels (and soft pretzels) are boiled before they are baked. Bagels also may be baked in a steam oven. So the taste of the water matters. Boiling/ steaming is what gives it the shiny finish. When you buy a pretzel at a mall shop, usually you are really getting a breadstick- it hasn’t been boiled and the only reason it’s shiny is because they put butter on it.

The world is fricking falling apart and we are supposed to be interested or behind this?

  4. Richard says:

Best tap water? How are you qualified to make such a claim. You are merely a multi-divorce former talk show host. Have you spent the time to go around doing tests? Have you done blind taste tests? Fool.

  5. Fish Smelt says:

I guess it’s the pollution of the East River
    Tires , dead Mobsters, condoms
that give it a special taste

I went in today to check the food out myself. I was surprised. It was great!
