Reports: Facebook May Be Moving HQ Up The Road

MENLO PARK, Calif. (AP) — Facebook Inc. may be preparing to move its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto to the Menlo Park campus once occupied by Sun Microsystems, according to published reports.

Facebook spokesman Larry Yu told the San Francisco Chronicle the company plans to hold a news conference at Menlo Park City Hall on Tuesday morning to discuss "a campus that will fit our long-term business needs."

Yu would not confirm that Facebook was eyeing the 57-acre bay-front site that has been empty since Oracle Corp.'s purchase of Sun was completed last year.

Menlo Park is about three miles north of Palo Alto, where Facebook has been based since 2004.

Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone tells the Chronicle that losing Facebook would cost the county more in prestige than property taxes since the company leases its current headquarters.
