Man Moves To Protect Elderly Mother, Is Murdered At Her Home
SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — A California man who moved in with his elderly mother to protect her from crime has been killed in the woman's home.
San Bernardino police Lt. Jarrod Burguan says 48-year-old Robert Francisco Mata Jr.'s mother found his body Tuesday afternoon in a bedroom of the home they shared.
Investigators initially thought Mata was shot in the head, but the lieutenant says it could have been a blunt force injury. A coroner's autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Seventy-year-old Victoria Silva, the victim's mother, tells the San Bernardino County Sun that her son moved in with her because he feared for her safety and didn't want her to be alone.
