Brush Fire Forces Evacuations In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (AP) — Fire officials say about 20 homes have been evacuated in Riverside where a fire in the Santa Ana River bottom has burned at least ten acres.

The fire started shortly after noon near Grassy Trail Drive.

Ground crews and a water-dropping helicopter are battling the fire which is burning in hot, windy conditions.

Wind gusts pushed the flames from the river bottom to the brush and was spreading embers to palm trees.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
